Salem House Provision, The Old Winston Soap is a blend of avocado, castor, coconut, olive, palm, rice bran oils, tussah silk, and vitamin E. The fragrance is a fresh mix of bay leaf, fir needle, cedarwood, bergamot, and tobacco. I used micas for colorant, activated charcoal for the lines in the soap, and poppy seeds for exfoliation. This soap is meant to be a nod to Winston-Salem's roots in the tobacco industry. Tobacco was a cash crop for years in North Carolina, and whether you grew it, bought it, or worked in a manufacturing plant that transformed it, this crop put food on the table for many generations in this area. Winston Salem certainly experienced growth as a city in its early years because of the tobacco industry. Now Winston Salem is a more diverse city, and tobacco certainly is not king, but that doesn't mean you still can't ride around town and see remnants of our town's rich history.
